Submission Guides

The Submission Portal will be open from July 8 – July 23. See below for the different types of submissions and Submission Guides for each type. Submission guides lay out the information that will be collected when the portal opens so that you can begin preparing.

Take 2 minutes to get up to speed on SPSP's Submission options:

Symposia are sessions organized by a chair that are comprised of 3-4 scientific presentations on similar topics. These 75-minute sessions offer attendees the chance to hear from some leading researchers in the field. The content of symposia is entirely scientific, offering a look into cutting-edge research.

All submissions in the Single Presenter category will be considered for all three presentation types unless the submitter opts not to be considered for a poster and pending eligibility.

Posters: Posters are the largest form of programming at the SPSP Annual Convention. They are presented in sessions that take place in the exhibit hall throughout the convention. Posters are grouped in sessions together based on their keywords.
- Note for undergraduate students: you can submit during the regular submission period OR during the additional extended submission period specifically for undergraduate poster submissions, July 24-September 19.)

Exceptional submissions will be given the opportunity to participate in a Data Blitz or in a symposium session of single-paper submissions organized by the program committee.

Data Blitz: Data Blitz presentations are 5-minute rapid fire presentations grouped into sessions of 12 presentations. Presenters have limited time to give attendees the very best of their research. These popular sessions give attendees the chance to capture the span of the field in one session.

Data blitz sessions will be grouped according to the following:

  • Student/Early Career Data Blitz: for those enrolled in a graduate program OR who earned their doctorate on or after January 1, 2017 (2 sessions of 12 presentations each)
  • Teacher/Scholar Data Blitz: for teachers/scholars who teach and work exclusively with undergraduate students (1 session of 12 presentations)

Single Paper: Single paper submissions allow submitters to submit their science for consideration as a single paper i.e. without putting together a full symposium. These submissions will be reviewed and then grouped into 75-minute symposia with 2-3 other single papers of similar topics. (~8 sessions of 4 presentations each) Eligibility: must be enrolled in a graduate program or have a doctorate degree.

75-minute Professional Development Session: Professional development sessions may address contemporary issues and topics affecting the field (replication, job market, funding, teaching models, etc.) and are not tied directly to specific research. A professional development session is 75 minutes long and may come in various formats: plenary, panel, pro/con debate, demonstrations, roundtable discussions, etc.

Workshop: “Deep-Dive” Workshops provide convention attendees with an intensive focus on a specific topic. To allow for an in-depth learning experience, workshops are 2.5-4 hours long and can include various formats, including presentations, panels, debates, hands on activities and demonstrations, roundtable discussions, etc. This type of session requires pre-application for attendees.
