The Society for Personality and Social Psychology is committed to providing a fair, equitable, respectful, and harassment-free environment for all 2019 SPSP Convention attendees. As part of that commitment, we have retained a firm of experienced professionals, ProActive ReSolutions, to provide independent, confidential Ombuds services during and immediately after the convention.
What is an Ombuds?
An Ombuds is a person trained in conflict resolution who is independent of SPSP and has no other role in the Society. Organizations have found that people are often more willing to report concerns when an Ombuds is available, and SPSP is committed to improving reporting options for convention attendees.
Why would I call the Ombuds?
A ProActive Ombuds can provide advice and consultation to attendees regarding any concerns relating to fairness, equity, or respect that may arise during the convention.
What will the Ombuds do if I call?
Listen impartially and act as a sounding board for your concerns;
Provide general resource information and make appropriate referrals;
Facilitate your exploration of options and ways of moving forward;
Coach you to have constructive communications; and
Give sound and practical advice to empower you to self-advocate.
What about confidentiality?
The Ombuds will keep all information you provide confidential unless they assess an imminent risk to safety. Throughout the convention, the Ombuds will identify any trends and patterns arising from consultations and inquiries received. Following the convention, ProActive will report those trends and patterns to the SPSP Board of Directors in a completely anonymized manner.
Whom else can I talk to about any concerns?
The Ombuds is only one option for convention attendees to address their concerns. You may also contact the Executive Director or any member of the Board of Directors to discuss or report your concerns directly. You may do so without speaking to the Ombuds or after having done so.
Note: While the Ombuds can provide guidance to individuals wishing to understand formal reporting options, they do not accept complaints on behalf of SPSP.
How can I contact the Ombuds?

A ProActive Ombuds will respond to you as soon as possible and within 24 hours.
Who will be providing the Ombuds services?
