The Social Personality Health Network is excited to present the 7th SPSP Health Preconference, dedicated to examining the reciprocal relationship between social/personality psychology and health. This preconference, traditionally the largest of the SPSP preconferences, will present research at multiple levels of analysis, and topics this year will include mental health, health disparities, medical decision making, health communication, emotions, risk perception, and the neurobiology of social stress, among other exciting areas of research. Two graduate student awards will be presented, along with an Early Career Award.

NEW: Join us for the 5th Annual SPSP Health Pre-Preconference Mixer! If you're new to the SPSP Health Preconference, we would be delighted to get to know you, and if you're an old-timer there's plenty of catching up to do. It will be held the night before the Pre-conference at a great venue, Drink Texas, located on the Riverwalk just a few blocks from the convention center.

So come join your fellow SPHN graduate students and faculty as we socialize and enjoy happy hour drinks. To help us better plan, it would be great if you could RSVP (even if a “maybe”) by clicking here.

Blitz Talks & Posters:

The SPHN preconference will again feature a data blitz and poster session. Both provide opportunities for graduate students and postdocs to share findings with an audience of interested health researchers. Each data blitz presentation lasts 2 minutes and highlights one central idea, study, or finding. The poster presentation format is standard. Data blitz talks and poster presentations will be announced at the preconference.

Travel Awards

We are excited to offer two $500 travel awards to graduate students and postdocs on the basis of outstanding data blitz abstracts. Travel award winners will be announced at the preconference.

Early Career Award

The Social and Personality Health Network (SPHN) awards an annual Early Career Award to honor a junior scholar who has made exceptional contributions to research and/or practice that integrates social/personality and health psychology. The recipient of the award will be announced at the 2017 preconference, and the winner will be formally recognized at the 2018 preconference with a plaque and the opportunity to give an invited talk on his/her research.

SPSP 5K Fun Run & Walk:

As in previous years, SPHN will host the SPSP 5k Fun Run & Walk jointly with SPSP.

Save $25 when you register for both convention and preconference together!

Registration for preconferences is limited and fills quickly.
